Chief Executive of the Macau SAR Government (englische Übersetzung des Briefes an Dr. Chui Sai On)

Chief Executive of the Macau SAR Government
Dr. Chui Sai On

Dear Mr. President,

since several months we, as a Germany located animal welfare organization, watch carefully and full of worries the situation at and around the canidrome in Macau.
For years, together with many organizations worldwide, it’s our aim banning Greyhound racing as inhumane and cruel because the dogs at the race tracks are forced to „run for their lifes“. So, when their days are gone and they can’t earn money back anymore, they will be put down or they suffer severe injuries during trials or races and are euthanized before their normal time is over.
These beautiful and gentle dogs do suffer this pain just to amuse and entertain people.
Deeply concerned we recognized during the last months that there is such a race track operating in Macau. Furthermore we have been informed, that the maximum life time of a dog there is not longer than 3 years, whereas normal life time is going up to 15 years. Even the information about the fact that about 30 greyhounds will be imported from Australia each month do show, how many dogs are leaving the track – because they are put to sleep – each month and need to be replaced.
Many animal welfare, protection and rescue organization including Macau’s animal advocate groupe ANIMA, represented by their president Mr. Albano Martins, worked and are still working hard, as long as the Canidrome is operating, to get the retired dogs to rehome them.
These efforts are represented by the so called „Rescue Brooklyn" campaign, which got awareness and supports all around the world and put the light to the animal welfare situation in Macau, which is now recognized by people all over the world.
We kindly ask you, Mr. President, for standing up to end the misery of the greyhounds at the race track in Macau and force the race track managers to hand over retired dogs to the animal welfare goups.

The grandeur of a human is represented by the fact, how much respect she or he gives to other creatures and the environment.
Please show respect and grandeur regarding the greyhounds at Canidrome in Macau.

Many thanks for your engagement and your attention,

the team of ProGreyhound e.V.
